Overview
TotalIDE does not require a TotalIDE account. The app does not contain advertising, behavioral tracking or third-party analytics SDKs. Its core editing, project intelligence, formatting, running, debugging, Preview, local history and database inspection features operate on the Mac.
Information stored on your device
TotalIDE may store the following information locally so the application can work as expected:
- Project files in folders you create or explicitly select.
- Security-scoped bookmarks that let TotalIDE reopen selected project folders.
- Editor, appearance, workspace and runtime preferences.
- Local project history and restore points.
- Shared AI memory containing preferences or confirmed project knowledge.
- Credentials for supported integrations, stored in the macOS Keychain where applicable.
This information is not automatically uploaded to Total.js. Project run and debug processes execute locally. Temporary launcher files are created in the system temporary directory and cleaned automatically.
Optional external services
TotalIDE connects to an external service only when you choose a feature that needs it. The information required for that request is sent directly to the selected service and is then handled under that service’s terms and privacy policy.
GitHub
If you connect GitHub, TotalIDE can read repository information and perform repository operations that you request. Authentication belongs to your GitHub account. Stored credentials can be removed by disconnecting the integration.
AI providers
If you start a supported remote coding agent, prompts, project context, selected files and tool results needed to complete your request may be processed by that provider. Remote providers may require their own account or subscription. Review the provider’s current privacy and retention settings before sending confidential code.
Local AI
Ollama and llama.cpp connections are configured by you. They normally point to a service running on your own computer or network. TotalIDE sends requests only to the endpoint you configure.
Component and documentation resources
When you browse or add Componentator resources, TotalIDE may request public catalog or source files from Componentator and GitHub. Downloaded component source becomes editable content inside the project folder you selected.
Local integrations
Preview, backend debugging and the optional MCP workspace connection use local loopback networking. MCP is off until you enable it and is intended for compatible agents running on the same Mac.
Your control and retention
You control the information TotalIDE keeps locally. Depending on the feature, you can:
- Close a project and remove it from recent projects.
- Delete individual local history snapshots.
- Inspect, delete or completely clear shared AI memory.
- Disconnect GitHub and remove its stored credential.
- Stop local MCP, AI, run and debug processes.
- Remove the application and its local container using normal macOS controls.
Files in project folders remain under your control and are not deleted merely because TotalIDE is removed.
Security, children and changes
TotalIDE uses the macOS App Sandbox, user-selected folder access and the macOS Keychain where applicable. No security measure can eliminate every risk, so review external provider permissions and avoid sharing secrets that are not required for your task.
TotalIDE is a professional developer tool and is not directed to children. We may update this policy when the application or its optional integrations change. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the current version.
